The Gang
Let this page serve as a sort of codex of general concepts for anyone who may not know me in real life.
The majority of my life, and by extension this blog, takes place in a town called Last Light, North Dakota. Like most names in this blog, this is a fake name to represent a real place, in order to protect the privacy of myself and those around me. A medium-sized, enormously forgettable town in the Northern side of North Dakota, not terribly far from the border of Canada. Another setting that is gauranteed to come up is Lake Sakakawea and Sakakawea State Park. Since none of us live there, those names are unchanged, but for those who don't know: Lake Sakakawea is a very large reservoir in North Dakota, surrounded by a beautiful state park. Several people in my social circle use Sakakawea as a nice getaway space, either for full vacations or impulsive late night trips.
Mateo's Diner, our go-to hangout in the morning. The diner was once owned by a man named Mateo, unsurprisingly, but he retired years ago and the diner was taken over by a local heiress named Winter and her wife Cadence. The two of them own a large part of neighborhood. They also own the apartment building I live in, and they are part owners of the studio building the Unnamed Studio is in. Despite their landlord status, Winter and Cadence remain fairly humble, with both of them working full-time in the diner they own. They aren't particularly cut-throat businesspeople, so prices end up staying fairly low. I haven't really hung out with Winter or Cadence outside of the diner, but we do have a decently close relationship just by virtue of how much time we all spend at the diner.
If someone in our circle isn't at the diner, there's a good chance you'll find them at the Unnamed Studio. The Unnamed Studio, which no one ever bothered to give a name, is a studio space rented by Yunie and a few of kyr friends, which they use for business and personal artistic and mechanical pursuits. There's also a lot of drinking and partying that happens there, but that's more of a symptom than anything. The building itself is an old decommissioned steel mill or something, divided off into little work and art studios. The Unnamed Studio is a ground floor studio tucked away in the back of the building, with good ventilation, high roofs and decently sound resistant walls.
