Bad Romance

I'm writing this late at night, on my laptop at my desk.

So, funny story.

I didn't disappear for a full week of passion like I had hoped, but I definitely managed to fall off of the face of the Earth for a while. When I finally returned to reality, I wanted Yunie to be the first to know about the depravity that had consumed my life for the last several days, but when I asked around, kye hadn't been seen or heard from much either. Kye wasn't at Mateo's, kye wasn't at the Unnamed Studio. So, I figured, we're good friends, it's reasonable for me to show up at kyr house right?

"Oh, hey Davo." Kye said, opening the door after I knocked. See, simplest solution. "Come in, come in."

"Hey, I've been looking for you" I said as I stepped in. A few things stood out pretty quickly. Yunie's living room was... quite trashed. Clothing all over the floor, furniture knocked over... I think I saw some bloodstains? Not terribly out of the ordinary for kyr honestly. Kyr bedroom door was closed, which was usually only the case when kye was in it. Add to that the fact that kye seemed to be talking fairly quietly, it was pretty clear that someone was in the other room.

"I hope I'm not interrupting" I said, looking at the door.

"Naah, don't worry, they're asleep anyway. What's up?" Kye took a sip from a drink she picked up from her kitchen counter. Again, not entirely unusual behavior for Yunie, but not the most common of behaviors. Kye looked at me for a moment, then lit up. "You fucked Tara!"

Yeah! Uh, repeatedly. I've sort of just... well I stayed a few nights."

"That's my fuckin' girl right there." Yunie held kyr hand in the air for a high-five, which I granted kyr, given the circumstances. "So what's this then, like... just fooling around or something real?"

"I'm... not quite sure." I averted my eyes, a little embarrassed, and watched kyr swish kyr milky brown drink around gently in its glass. "We haven't really talked about that yet..."

Yunie raised an eyebrow. "Talking about things isn't really your strongsuit, is it?"

"No, I mean, it took us long enough to even get here. Like... I don't know, I feel like I usually know what I want, but it's hard to say it."

"Well what do you want?"

"I want to be with her, like, really with her. I wanna go where she goes, live life with her."

"So like, couple shit? You wanna be her girlfriend?"

"Something like that. Like, I don't really know the right words to..." I stopped abruptly, finally processing the drink in Yunie's hands. I stepped up toward kyr, leaning down to take a quick sniff of kyr drink. The unmistakable smell of Kahlua, my beloved... some potent grain alcohol, and... nutmeg??

"Yunie!" I exclaimed, shocked.

"Don't judge me! I'm human, I have needs, I have weaknesses."

"I get that, I just... ya know, I actually don't even really know what those needs or weaknesses are, given the ace thing.

"Such an unimaginative mind to think that two people in a bedroom together can find no pleasures beyond sex."

"I... okay, fair enough, but why her? I thought you hated her?"

"Oh I do. Passionately. But, like... hatred is a very attractive trait, ya know?"

"Once again, somehow, I do understand what you're saying..."

"I'm gonna have to ask that you keep this between us, okay? Please? I'm not really ready for people to know yet."

"Yeah, of course. Don't worry about, I didn't see anything."

"Really?" Tara asked, "Yunie and Azura? Can't say I saw that coming..."

I nodded in agreement, unable to verbally respond at the moment for reasons that are best not clarified.

"Well, good for them. I've been worried about Yunie for a while now. Kye seems pretty hard and uncaring but..."

That was about as much talking as the two of us had in us. After we finished our tastefully censored activities, I made my way home for the night. I realized that, in retrospect, Yunie and Azura actually make perfect sense. They do seem to embody a certain sitcom trope of the two characters who bicker so much that it wraps back around to them loving each other. Or maybe Yunie really does just love to hate. Who could say, really. That was for them to figure out. In the meantime, their secret was safe with me.

Okay, well, me and Tara.
